Choosing the right Kilimanjaro trekking tour is the biggest decision you’ll make for your climb. The route, the number of days, and your operator all shape your experience and your chance of reaching the summit. This guide walks you through the main routes, what our tours include, and how to book with confidence.
The main Kilimanjaro routes
Kilimanjaro has several established routes, each with its own character:
- Machame: scenic and popular, with a strong success rate over 7 days
- Lemosho: beautiful and quieter, excellent for acclimatisation
- Marangu: the only hut route, shorter but with lower success rates
- Rongai: approaches from the north, drier and less crowded
- Northern Circuit: the longest route, with the highest summit success

How many days do you need?
More days on the mountain means better acclimatisation and a higher chance of summiting. Most routes run between six and nine days. We usually recommend at least seven days for first-time climbers. The extra day makes a real difference to both comfort and success.
