If you have around ten days for Tanzania, you can combine the very best of a safari with the beaches of Zanzibar. This is our favourite itinerary for first-time visitors: enough time to see the iconic parks without rushing, finished with a few days of well-earned relaxation on the Indian Ocean.
Days 1 to 2: Arrival and Arusha
Fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport, where we meet you and transfer to a comfortable lodge near Arusha. Rest, recover from your flight, and meet your guide for a briefing on the days ahead.
Day 3: Tarangire National Park
Head to Tarangire, famous for its huge elephant herds and ancient baobab trees. It is an excellent and often underrated start to a safari, with fewer crowds than the bigger parks.
Days 4 to 5: Serengeti National Park
Journey into the legendary Serengeti for two full days of game drives. Depending on the season, you may witness the Great Migration, along with lions, cheetahs, giraffes and endless plains stretching to the horizon.
Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater
Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for one of the most concentrated wildlife experiences on earth. This is your best chance to complete the Big Five, including the rare black rhino.
Day 7: Transfer to Zanzibar
Return to the airport for a short flight to the spice island of Zanzibar. Check into your beach hotel and swap the savannah dust for soft white sand.
Days 8 to 10: Zanzibar beaches and Stone Town
Relax on the beach, take a spice tour, snorkel in turquoise water, and explore the historic alleys of Stone Town. Depart refreshed, with a camera full of memories.
